Upon completion of this course, you will be able to understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You will be able to express yourself fluently and spontaneously and use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.

To achieve maximum benefit, it is strongly advised that you complete both blocks as detailed below. A necessary part of the courses is approximately two hours of home study per week to consolidate classroom learning.

Block I

Topics covered in the first block include language styles, the past and childhood, books, music, films and social issues. The relevant vocabulary and grammar are integral parts of the lessons.

Block II

This block looks at the language of humour, travel and tourism, the Nanny State, medicine, food and emigrants with associated grammar and vocabulary.
