We recommend this course If your child is between 7 & 8, can already read (in their own language) and is already able to speak a bit of Dutch. If your child hardly has any knowledge of Dutch, is under 7 and can not read then Dutch Immersion I is more likely the right fit for your child.

Dutch will be the main language spoken during the lessons, in combination with body language and gestures. Following these course helps your child feel more comfortable in a setting where Dutch will be spoken.

The content covers a variety of themes, ranging from: family and friends, school, living space, eating and drinking, outdoor activities, festivities etc. To keep the children interested, we use a variety of tasks and play forms, such as role play, singing, TPR methodology, watching short clips, doing crafts and playing games. 

With the help of our own method 'Luister & Leer' we focus on speaking & listening skills. 

45 minutes will be devoted to more structured learning and the last 30 minutes of each class will be spent on arts and crafts or fun activities. 

In every lesson there is room for differentiation, taking into account the mixed level of ability of the participants. It does not matter if your child is completely new to the Dutch language or is already able to speak a couple of sentences. 

In a structured way we will build up basic vocabulary helped by the use of simple texts. We will spend quite some time learning to differentiate the Dutch language sounds.

Halfway through the course, we will introduce a bit more reading in class to prepare the children for the next course: Literacy.  In which guided reading and discussion of texts will be the focus.

The teaching approach is adapted to the age group.

The curriculum has been developed with input from experienced elementary school teachers who have worked with young children for many years. After the first 3 lessons, you will still have the option to opt out. So why not give it a try?

Late enrolments are also accepted. The maximum group size will be 8 children.

Children can be dropped off and picked up from the school. However, it is also possible for the parent(s)/caregiver(s) to wait in a separate room at Kickstart, while the children enjoy the Kickstart Dutch Kids Club.
