Would you like your child to keep improving their Dutch through reading Dutch books?
Your child may be ready for this level if:
- They already speak some Dutch and are becoming more confident using it in daily life conversations.
- They can already short Dutch texts or books and are ready to read with more independence.
- They can talk about familiar topics, such as holidays, hobbies, school, seasons, traditions, or things they have seen or heard.
- They are ready to express their thoughts in Dutch using short, clear sentences.
- They enjoy learning Dutch through reading, speaking challenges, word games, presentations, stories, and some creative activities.
- They are 8-10+ years old.
During this course, your child will work towards:
- Learning through a programme that is approximately 60% interactive reading, speaking, and listening and 40% language exercises, including short writing tasks, word games, puzzles, and drawing.
- Building confidence using Dutch in daily life conversations, interviews, and short presentations.
- Listening to the teacher read higher-level Dutch stories or books occassionally, helping children learn new vocabulary.
- Talking and summarizing about what they have read, watched, or heard.
- Expanding their Dutch vocabulary through themes such as nature, seasons, traditions, health, news topics, and daily life.
- Using short videos, Jeugdjournaal-style topics, and listening activities as starting points for speaking and writing.
- Practising how to make clear Dutch sentences, with a focus on sentence structure and simple grammar, including the past tense verb forms.
- Spelling more difficult sounds correctly.
Across the 3 terms, we aim to read and discuss around 6 Dutch books (AVI Levels 4-5), along with many additional short stories and informative texts.
