English Intercultural Communication Workshop
The examples of misunderstandings caused by lack of intercultural communication can be as basic as physical contact, such as a handshake, or eye contact.
A Japanese businessperson might not shake hands or make eye contact with their German colleague, which can lead to an awkward interaction. An invitation to an American business breakfast meeting might overwhelm some European invitees. Such situations can be uneasy as well as hilarious if taken lightly.
Further, business decision making processes vary from country to country depending on seniority: in Asian businesses, mostly a group of senior executives make decisions whereas in North American businesses an individual manager can be authorized to take decisions. Thus, if companies invest enough in the intercultural communication training for their staff, they can conduct their internal and external operations without much friction.
